2009 Skoda Octavia

Skoda Octavia

Skoda unveiled at the Paris Auto Show the updated version of the Octavia. Although the Czech automaker does not sell to the U.S., they are owned by the Volkswagen Group, so its fun to see what comes out of the VW parts bin. In the case of the Octavia, it shares most of its parts with cars like the VW Golf and Jetta as well as a few from the Audi A3.

The 2009 Octavia includes some minor tweaks including newly shaped headlamps, radiator grille and a one-piece bumper. The revision to the rear is mainly about new tail lamp covers and a dynamic bumper with integrated cat eyes.

Škoda’s rummage through VW parts continues with the engines including the 1.4-liter TSI engine and turbocharged 1.4 and 1.8-liter gas engines. The higher end powertrains can be combined with a seven-speed twin-clutch automatic DSG transmission. Although Škoda mainly sells rebadged Volkswagen products, the benefit comes in idea that it is VW products at usually a lower price.

Press release after the jump.

Seibon releases carbon-fiber accesories for the Nissan GT-R

Seibon releases carbon-fiber accesories for the Nissan GT-R

For those folks who don’t know, Seibon is a manufacturer specialized in producing carbon-fiber accessories, such as hoods, trunk lids, fenders and lip spoilers. It seems that the guys from Seibon liked the new Nissan GT-R and due to this they decided to create few carbon-fiber accessories for it.

The manufacturer released today a new hood and a new trunk, both made out of dry carbon-fiber. In our opinion the parts would really look awesome if they had the “glossy” look of the carbon-fiber not the “dry” look! What’s your opinion?

2008 Mazda Kiyora

Mazda Kiyora

Mazda unveiled at the Paris Auto Show the Kiyora Concept, a model that features Mazda’s new Smart Idle-Stop System (SISS) system and direct injection engines in an attempt to improve the average fuel economy of Mazda vehicles sold globally 30% by 2015.

Mazda Kiyora gives an indication where Mazda could go with a small, eco-friendly city car in the near future. It is highly fuel efficient, with a very small CO2 footprint, delivering Zoom- Zoom driving fun and high levels of safety. The car chieves this by taking Mazda’s acclaimed lightweight strategy to a new level by employing an extremely rigid and lightweight carbon-fibre body structure beneath a small, aerodynamic outer skin and a spirited, small-displacement 1.3-liter direct injection engine.

Mazda’s SISS saves fuel by automatically shutting down the engine when the vehicle is stationary, and achieves a quick and quiet restart for stress free driving. The system injects a small amount of fuel directly into the engine’s cylinders and ignites it to generate downward piston force which, with the aid of an electric motor, rapidly returns the engine to idle speed.
